Vision, Vision Boards, and God Boxes

In Debtors Anonymous, vision may be thought of as the ability to form a clear and specific picture of what we want to do in life, what we want to obtain, create, achieve, or accomplish....Our vision is our mission, our dream, and our goals—as they have been revealed to us by our Higher Power. — From the DA Visions brochure

Vision boards are a great way to "visualize" what you'd like to manifest in your life. It's a great way to allow your subconscious to reveal what you really are and what you really desire in this world. A vision board is made by simply gathering lots of old magazines together, flipping through pages, and cutting out images, words, or items that speak to you emotionally.

I began my first vision board during a DA workshop and didn't finish that day. Later, I remember sitting alone in my apartment watching the Academy Awards and creating not one, but two visions boards—two separate themes that popped up in my pictures, one for love, and one for writing. At the time I wasn't a professional writer at all.

Now here's the part where you want to hear that everything came true immediately. Well, it doesn't work like that. "Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly" like the promises state is more like it. It's taken over a year, but I am building my writing career. Some of the other things on my vision board haven't come true yet, but I have faith they will.

The next time I did a visions exercise was at a spring visions retreat. I had done two huge poster boards before, and I opted to create a vision "book" this time. Another time, I created a God box to hold all my worries, frustrations, fears, and concerns.

A God box is simply a decorated shoe box. When my head is hurting from either money, relationships, physical, spiritual, or emotional issues, I simply take a small piece of paper, date the top and write, "I turn over ______ to you God". Then, I drop it in my God box to let Him take care of it. It's amazing the mental freedom that simple action creates and the peace I feel. Months later when I check my box's submissions, I see that everything has been resolved. It happens very time.

I recently completed two new visions boards. I'm excited to see how they will turn out in my life. Many people have had all their visions come true, others are still patiently waiting. When they come true is all in God's timing.

If you want to help creating a vision for your life, I encourage to visit the two DA and BDA visions meetings available. The DA Visions meeting is held every Saturday in Brentwood at 11AM. The BDA Visions meeting is held every Thursday in Hancock Park at 7:30P. Hope to see you there!
